CVS Video Camera: Removing Limitations
Changelog
Nov 21st, 2005 Initial version of this page created, with what I know so far.
VirtualDub Audio Fix
(from here) VirtualDub and other software (like Vegas Video) are unable to use DirectShow to decompress audio, they can only use ACM codecs. As a result, when you open an .avi file from a CVS camera in one of these applications, it will not be able to play the audio.
The fix is pretty simple:
- Download qmpeg
- Extract it somewhere
- Right click on qmpeg.inf, and click Install
Now you can use any application you want to manipulate your videos!
Mass Storage Device Hack
The 3.40 firmware had the ability for the CVS camcorder to show up as a USB Mass Storage Device. This has not really been removed from the 3.62 and 3.70 firmwares, although the hooks into it have been.
Fortunately, the latest version of Ops (0.14) has the ability to run scripts! You can download scripts for both 3.62 and 3.70 that will re-enable this mode from here.
Recording Time Limitations
There are 2 limitations on the length of videos that you can record with your camera. One is known as the soft limit, and is set at 20 minutes by default. This is the counter that's shown in the camera's OSD. When this hits 0:00, the camera will actually keep recording. The real limit is the "hard" limit (25 minutes by default), this will actually make the camera thow up an image and stop recording.
You can use Ops to manipulate both of these limits, including disabling the hard limit entirely (highly recommended!).
